5 Healthy Apps for the Super Bowl

With the super bowl parties right around the corner, we’re scanning through cookbooks and running in and out of our local health food store, all to think of a small, healthy appetizer to please everyone on game night; we can’t forget our 2018 resolution to maintain a balanced lifestyle between healthy eating and still enjoying ourselves!
Don’t worry, we’re here for you with five of our favorite fun and healthy snacks that will be a hit on Sunday! #HealthyApproved
So here’s how we can eat our FAVORITE foods (Pizza, Wings, Chips, and even Dessert) while still achieving our goal:

1. Cauliflower Crust Pizza
Ingredients:
Trader Joe’s cauliflower crust
Organic tomato sauce
Fresh mozzarella or feta
Spinach, tomatoes, grilled chicken (optional)
Instructions:
Cook the crust at 450 degrees (10 minutes each side)
Warm the pizza sauce in a pot
When ready, spread the sauce onto the crust, add toppings, and enjoy!

2. Spicy Buffalo “Wings”
Ingredients:

1 head of cauliflower (4-5 cups of florets)
½ cup of unsweetened, non-dairy milk (almond or soy work best)
½ cup of water
¾ cup of all purpose flour (can substitute gluten free rice flour)
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp paprika
¼ teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
1 tbsp Earth Balance buttery spread
1 cup of Franks red hot sauce (can substitute BBQ sauce)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 450
Line baking sheet with parchment paper
Mix all of the ingredients EXCEPT Earth Balance and hot sauce (this is added separately)
Dip each floret into the mixture and coat evenly, tapping off any excess
Lay florets in an even layer on the parchment paper
Bake for 25 minutes, until golden brown, flipping the florets half way through
Let cool, choose a sauce, and dig in!

3. Avocado Deviled Eggs
Ingredients:

For each egg:
- 1/2 an avocado
- 1/2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
- 1tsp ground mustard
- Sea salt
- 1 tbsp of mayo
Instructions:
- Cut in half
- Remove the yolk
- Put in food processor with the ingredients
- Blend and then fill the eggs! So simple! Enjoy!

4. Sweet Potato “Chips”
Ingredients:

1 peeled, very thinly sliced sweet potato
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Cumin
Paprika
Sea salt
Instructions:
Heat oven to 400 degrees
On two baking sheets, toss sweet potato with oil and seasonings
Bake, flipping halfway, until crisp and golden! (20-25 minutes)
Snack away!

5. Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
Ingredients:
½ cup bittersweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons of cocoa nibs
24 pretzel sticks (preferably whole wheat)

Instructions:
Line baking sheet with parchment or wax paper
Place chocolate chips in a small glass bowl
Microwave on medium for 1 minute
Stir, the continue microwaving for 20 seconds or until melted
Dip half of each pretzel piece into the melted chocolate. Let the excess drip back into the bowl.
Place the dipped pieces on the baking sheet.
Sprinkle cocoa nibs over the chocolate.
Refrigerate until the chocolate is set (about 30 minutes)
Enjoy your sweet treat!
